Kudos

Project:                        Kudos Hair Salon
Location:                     York
Duration:                     6 Weeks
Form of Contract:       Main Contractor

This project was a complete fit out where the existing salon was completely stripped out back to the bare concrete shell of the building so a fresh start could be made.

This upmarket hair salon is situated in the centre of York. The premises originally housed a pet store so to say it needed drastic improvement would be an understatement. Works entailed the following; Plaster boarding and skimming of all walls and ceilings, removal of the rear existing staircase, Including joisting out and boarding over, installing a new central staircase and fire screens to span two floors through the centre of the building, supply and fitting of all Bespoke unitary including bespoke Walnut hair stations, solid Walnut screens & doors, counters and retail displays. The flooring laid consisted of solid Walnut and porcelain tiles.

Whilst still in close contact with the designer our setting out team detailed up the whole scheme on AutoCAD along with cutting sheets and material requirements. The staircase details was then passed to our factory’s machining department, once machined all materials would then move onto the assembly area for erection and left ready for our in house polishing team to apply the required finish. The central section of the floor was removed and from this stage the trimmer joists were inserted and the opening left boarded round ready for insertion of the staircase. Two identical openings were formed on the first and second floor as the staircase spanned three floors. It was necessary for all the above work to be carried out to precise measurements to enable the staircase to fit; this was achieved by using laser technology for the marking out process.

Before the project commenced the loft ladder was the only access to the second floor until the installation of the new staircase. All the floor area required over boarding with ply wood before tiling commenced and wall areas were boarded and skimmed as necessary. The bay window in places was defective and required extensive restoration.

The floors were tiled with “Silic Black” tiles, all walls were boarded and skimmed and the hair cutting stations installed included a matching walnut illuminated canopy overhead. All the cutting stations were finished with 12mm thick toughened glass tops which had to be templated for accuracy and completed with stainless steel bezels to finish off the hair dryer locating cut-outs.

The Ground floor entrance encompassed some unique contemporary retail display units constructed from a mixture of solid wood, toughened glass and bespoke stainless steel. These were spray painted to a matt white finish in our in house polishing facility. Custom legs and top rails were fabricated in stainless steel to finish off this contemporary design.

The ground floor salon area utilized the solid walnut and tiled floors which were highlighted by the recessed floor LED’s. Four fire screens in total had to be uninstalled made from a combination of solid walnut and Georgian wired glass to meet the latest fire regulations. The fire screen doors are retained by fire magnetic catches allowing easy and complete access throughout the shop but still complying to the regulations.
